Summary

TechCrunch is an American global online newspaper and media platform focusing on high-tech and startup companies. Founded in June 2005 by Archimedes Ventures, led by partners Michael Arrington and Keith Teare, TechCrunch has grown to become a premier source of technology news, analysis, and profiling of emerging startups. Over its history, TechCrunch has undergone several ownership transitions: it was acquired by AOL in 2010 for approximately $25 million, came under Verizon Media's ownership in 2015, was sold to Apollo Global Management in 2021 (becoming part of Yahoo! Inc.), and was eventually acquired by Regent LP in 2025. Beyond its online reporting, TechCrunch is highly regarded for its annual Disrupt conference and events like Startup Battlefield. In the tech ecosystem, coverage in TechCrunch is a notable milestone, as seen when it lauded the data-driven investment strategy of Bill Maris during his tenure at Google Ventures.
