Summary
The XB-1, also known as the XB1 or XB-1, is the first privately developed supersonic jet, successfully built and flown by Boom Supersonic with a team of only 50 employees. This technological achievement, which included a live-streamed test flight utilizing a Starlink installation, was a significant step towards Boom's goal of reintroducing commercial supersonic flight. To address the issue of sonic booms, which previously led to the Concorde's demise, Boom developed a "Boomless cruise" technique, also referred to as Mach cutoff, to direct sound upwards. This success prompted rapid regulatory support, including an Executive Order from the Biden Administration to end the 1973 civilian ban on supersonic flight, and the unanimous passage of the Supersonic Legalization Act in the House. In a strategic shift from outsourcing, Boom embraced vertical integration, leveraging digital design and manufacturing tools to create their own jet engine core capable of running at Mach 1.7 without water cooling. This engine core has a secondary application in powering data centers for AI, with potential discussions regarding its use in Elon Musk's Colossus supercomputer. Boom is currently constructing a turbine factory to scale engine production, aligning with national goals of re-industrialization and advanced manufacturing in America. The company's future passenger airliner, Overture, aims to drastically reduce travel times between major cities, with potential expansion into private aviation and even a supersonic Air Force One.

The Xbox One is a home video game console developed by Microsoft. Announced in May 2013, it is the successor to Xbox 360 and the third console in the Xbox series. It was first released in North America, parts of Europe, Australia, and South America in November 2013 and in Japan, China, and other European countries in September 2014. It is the first Xbox game console to be released in China, specifically in the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone. Microsoft marketed the device as an "all-in-one entertainment system", hence the name "Xbox One". An eighth-generation console, it mainly competed against Sony's PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Wii U and Switch. [...] Moving away from its predecessor's PowerPC-based architecture, the Xbox One marks a shift back to the x86 architecture used in the original Xbox "Xbox (console)"); it features an Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) from AMD built around the x86-64 instruction set. Xbox One's controller was redesigned over the Xbox 360's, with a redesigned body, D-pad, and triggers capable of delivering directional haptic feedback. The console places an increased emphasis on cloud computing, as well as social networking features and the ability to record and share video clips or screenshots from gameplay or livestream directly to streaming services such as Mixer "Mixer (service)") and Twitch "Twitch (service)"). Games can also be played off-console via a local area network on supported Windows 10 devices. [...] via a local area network on supported Windows 10 devices. The console can play Blu-ray Disc, and overlay live television programming from an existing set-top box or a digital tuner for digital terrestrial television with an enhanced program guide. The console optionally included a redesigned Kinect sensor, marketed as the "Kinect 2.0", providing improved motion tracking and voice recognition.
- Boom XB-1 - Wikipedia
The Boom XB-1 "Baby Boom" is a retired trijet supersonic demonstrator designed by Boom Technology as part of the development of the Boom Overture supersonic transport airliner. Powered by three General Electric J85 engines, it was initially designed to maintain a speed of Mach 2.2, with over 1,000 nautical miles (1,900 km; 1,200 mi) of range; but the demonstrator was tested to only Mach 1.1 and no long–range flights were made. The XB-1 began taxi tests in December 2022, and conducted its maiden flight on March 22, 2024. The aircraft performed its first supersonic flight test on January 28, 2025, being the first privately developed jet aircraft to do so. It made a second supersonic flight on February 10, 2025, after which the XB-1 was retired. ## Development [...] ### Materials The XB-1 is constructed of lightweight composites, titanium and stainless steel. Materials for the hot leading edges and 307 °F (153 °C) nose, and epoxy materials for cooler parts, are provided by Dutch TenCate Advanced Composites, high-temperature materials supplier for the SpaceX Falcon 9. The airframe is primarily intermediate-modulus carbon fiber/epoxy, with high-modulus fibers for the wing spar caps and bismaleimide pre-preg for the high-temperature leading edges and ribs. The rear section of the fuselage containing the engines is made from 90% titanium and 10% A286 stainless steel alloys. ## Specifications (preliminary) Data from Boom Supersonic, Aviation Week[needs update] General characteristics Performance ## See also Related development ## References [...] On January 28, 2025, the XB-1 performed its first supersonic test flight from Mojave Air and Spaceport, piloted by test pilot Brandenburg. It went supersonic three times, reaching a top speed of Mach 1.1, being the first privately developed jet aircraft to do so. XB-1 performed its second supersonic flight and final planned test flight on February 10, 2025, concluding the test program. The company said XB-1 had achieved supersonic flight without generating an audible sonic boom that reached the ground after refining its sonic boom models and improving algorithms for predicting Mach cutoff conditions. The aircraft is planned to be put on display in the lobby of Boom Technology's headquarters in Centennial, Colorado, after the conclusion of its test program. ## Design
