Summary

Sarah Ransome is a South African-born memoirist and a prominent accuser of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. She gained significant public attention for her 2021 memoir, "Silenced No More," in which she detailed her experiences of being trafficked and abused by Epstein and Maxwell, including a harrowing account of attempting to escape Little Saint James island by swimming. While she has been a central figure in documentaries and legal proceedings related to the Epstein scandal, her credibility has been publicly challenged by critics like journalist Michael Tracey. Tracey, speaking on the All-In Podcast, categorized her claims as part of a media-driven "moral panic" and noted that she had previously recanted allegations against figures such as Alan Dershowitz. Beyond the Epstein case, Ransome has also leveled sexual assault allegations against Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies.

Ghislaine Maxwell

Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell (born 25 December 1961) is a British former socialite. In 2021, she was found guilty of child sex trafficking and other offences in connection with the deceased American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In 2022, she was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment in the United States. Born in France and raised in Oxford, England, she attended Balliol College, Oxford in the 1980s and became a prominent member of London's social scene. She is a naturalised American citizen and retains both French and British citizenship. Maxwell worked for her father, Robert Maxwell, until his death in 1991; she then moved to New York City, where she continued living as a socialite and had developed a close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Alongside Epstein, Maxwell built up a vast social network consisting of prominent elites. Documents released by the US Department of Justice reveal that she had maintained friendships with Naomi Campbell, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Bill Clinton and Kerry Kennedy. In July 2020, Maxwell was arrested by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and charged by the US federal government with the crimes of enticement of minors and sex trafficking of underage girls, related to her association with Epstein as his recruiter. She was denied bail. She was convicted on five out of six counts, including one of sex trafficking of a minor, in December 2021.

SARAH RANSOME: When I was sexually assaulted when I was 11, I always assumed it was my fault and I was the one to blame. So with that comes a lot of guilt, comes a lot of shame. And it almost sort of festers in you and eats you sort of almost inside out. So even now I'm still learning on what boundaries are. So that's why I feel, personally, I perhaps was a lot more vulnerable than the average person. [...] RANSOME: OK. I'm really, really pleased that you asked me this. And I'd like to make it very clear. This was not transactional. Rape is rape. It doesn't matter if I was living in Jeffrey's apartment. No one has the right to rape me. I already had two prior escape attempts. There was one when I tried to swim off the island after I'd been raped three times and after Ghislaine had taken my food away. I was prepared to die swimming and trying to escape off that island that night. And there was another occasion when, you know, I didn't respond to Jeffrey. And I was walking along. And his car pulled up next to me. I was forced into his car, taken to his mansion and raped. He knew exactly where I was. It didn't matter where I was. It didn't matter where I went. He would always find me. I've been [...] matter where I went. He would always find me. I've been running from Jeffrey and Ghislaine pretty much until the day Jeffrey died. I was finally free of him.

Sarah Ransome, who detailed abuse by Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell in a 2021 memoir, alleges that Leslie Benzies, a producer and lead designer of several games in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, sexually assaulted her. The allegation appears in a cache of emails sent by Ransome in the Department of Justice’s Jan. 30 Epstein files release. In the email, dated Dec. 9, 2023, Ransome write that Benzies acted “as if he invented the throwing of money at a ‘prostitute’ on me, then sexually assaulted me afterwards.” The time of the alleged assault is unclear, though Ransome also wrote that Benzies gave her money for a plane ticket to New York on Sept. 1, 2006. ### Related Stories [Music [...] Got a tip?
