Summary

Stacey Abrams is an American politician, lawyer, voting rights activist, and author. She served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017, including a term as minority leader. Abrams founded Fair Fight Action in 2018 to combat voter suppression, and her efforts are credited with increasing voter turnout in Georgia, notably in the 2020 presidential election and the 2020-21 Senate elections, which helped Democrats gain Senate control. She was the first African-American woman to be a major-party gubernatorial nominee in the U.S. when she ran for Governor of Georgia in 2018, losing to Brian Kemp by a narrow margin. Abrams also made history in February 2019 as the first African-American woman to deliver a response to the State of the Union address. She ran for governor again in 2022, again losing to Kemp. Beyond her political career, Abrams is a successful author, with her nonfiction books "Our Time Is Now" and "Lead from the Outside" becoming New York Times bestsellers. She previously wrote eight fiction books under the pen name Selena Montgomery and has since published fiction and children's books under her own name. A nonprofit linked to Stacey Abrams was mentioned in a debate on the All-In Podcast regarding its receipt of massive funding, contrasting with bureaucratic hurdles faced by a high-tech manufacturing firm.
