Summary

Geometric Unity is a claimed theory of everything proposed by Eric Weinstein, an American investor and podcast host. Weinstein, who also coined the term "intellectual dark web," has presented Geometric Unity as a potential advancement beyond current physics paradigms, suggesting it could explain phenomena like UFOs/UAPs and lead to breakthroughs in weaponry, energy, and propulsion, which he refers to as "Boom Vroom Zoom." However, the scientific community has met Geometric Unity with skepticism and it has not had a measurable impact on the field. Weinstein believes that the field of theoretical physics was negatively impacted by an obsession with String Theory, and he sees his Geometric Unity theory as a way forward, discussing it with peers such as Edward Frenkel. He anticipates that future observations of Dark Energy will challenge existing physical models and potentially validate aspects of his theory.

Eric Ross Weinstein (; born October 26, 1965) is an American investor and podcast host. As of 2021, he was managing director for the American venture capital firm Thiel Capital. Weinstein coined the term "intellectual dark web" to refer to a loose network of public figures opposed to left-wing identity politics and political correctness in the late 2010s. He has advanced what he claims is a theory of everything called "Geometric Unity". Geometric Unity has been met with skepticism by, and has had no measurable impact on, the scientific community.

On April 1, 2020, Eric prepared for release a video of his 2013 Oxford lecture on Geometric Unity as a special episode of The Portal Podcast. Eric has set April 1 as a new tradition, a day on which we are encouraged to say heretical things that we truly believe, in good faith, without fear of retribution from our employers, institutions, or communities. In this spirit, Eric released the latest draft of his Geometric Unity manuscript on April 1, 2021. Download the GU Draft Abstract

First of all, we observe that we have a division into intrinsic theories and auxiliary theory and between physics and mathematics. An intrinsic physical theory would be general relativity. An auxiliary physical theory would be the Yang-Mills theory, with the freedom to choose internal quantum numbers. > > At the mathematical level, an intrinsic theory would be, the older semi-Riemannian geometry. The study of manifolds with length and angle. Auxiliary geometry is what we're going to call fiber bundle theory or modern gauge theory. > > Geometric Unity is the search for some way to break down the walls between these four boxes. > [...] I personally knew Sean’s co-author Roman Jackiw decently well on this topic as he was at MIT. This was his perspective. Why is Geometric Unity called Geometric Unity? Because we believe you can sacrifice neither geometry or the field will come to a standstill. It’s right there in the name. You need to have both Riemannian and Ehressmanian geometry to combine Gravity and Particle theory respectively. Sean’s work is the DIRECT competitor of this GU theory. And GU sacrificed neither. or connections, while in general relativity it involves symmetric rank two tensors, or the metric tensor as you may know it. What other analogies exist, and how can we make these analogies not only precise, but derived? Furthermore, how can this be done with the smallest set of simple assumptions possible? That's what geometric unity aims to achieve. Layer two. Geometric unity begins with the four-dimensional manifold x4, and then it constructs a bundle of metrics called y14. This 14-dimensional space comes about naturally. How? Well, at each point in the original manifold, you can assign a symmetric bilinear form, which is a metric of ten independent components plus, of course, the four dimensions of the base space to account for each point in the manifold. [...] because this chimeric bundle is isomorphic to both tangent and cotangent bundles of Y, you get spinor bundles to exist prior to choosing a metric on the base space, X, or even a connection on Y. But once you do select a connection, you become canonically isomorphic. This is that Zorro construction, and it's a constitutional mechanism that powers geometric unity. The spinor bundle on the space then decomposes as follows. There is something else called the augmented torsion tensor, and that is supposed to resolve. Again, we have to think, what is Eric thinking is the problem? What is the goal? Well, Eric's thinking, I'm looking for a map from the inhomogeneous gauge group to the space of connections, which is equivariant under this right action, and equivariant on the left-hand side [...] dot org, CURTJAIMUNGAL.org. Explaining Geometric Unity to a Five-Year-Old. In physics today, we have these two primary theories that don't get along well. One is about gravity, so general relativity, and one is also about particles, so it's the standard model. The universe seems governed by particles, but it also seems to be governed by gravity. Since you're made up of both particles, and you stick to the ground, and you orbit the sun, etc. However, both of these theories, even though they describe the universe, they don't combine well together, and the prefix of universe is uni, which means one. So is there a unification that combines these? That's what Geometric Unity attempts. The key insight from Eric Weinstein is to take a look at this 4D

There may be the germs of some interesting mathematical perspectives arising from Geometric Unity, just like any arrangement of chess positions can contain interesting sub-configurations here or there. But even such a modest claim places the burden of proof on Weinstein, alone or with collaborators, to work out the arrangement of the missing pieces. Else as it stands, Geometric Unity is an incomplete and flawed proposal which no one else is obligated to digest, much less complete. And as to Weinstein’s far grander claim of possessing the keys to a genuine Theory of Everything, the limited scope of Geometric Unity makes it inconceivable how such a claim could possibly hold true. Like most rough drafts, Geometric Unity in its current form should have been developed further before being [...] Enter Eric Weinstein. Weinstein received his PhD in mathematical gauge theory from Harvard in 1992, where his dissertation studied the self-dual Yang-Mills equations. These equations have had a profound impact on mathematics and physics, and Weinstein’s thesis extended their construction from dimension four to dimension eight. After several postdoctoral positions, Weinstein left academia in 1998 with his dissertation appearing to be the only trail he left behind. Working in various roles as an economist, he re-emerged onto the mathematical physics scene in 2013 with a lecture given at Oxford on his theory of physics “Geometric Unity” (GU). Weinstein was provided this opportunity through the invitation of mathematician Marcus du Sautoy, who wrote a glowing accolade of Weinstein published [...] Sautoy, who wrote a glowing accolade of Weinstein published in The Guardian. A look at Weinstein’s CV shows that he had the ideas for Geometric Unity dating back to at least 1995 through a seminar he gave at MIT/Harvard on “A Program for Geometric Unification”. The Oxford lecture, however, was an isolated incident that made no impact in any social or scientific circles as no paper or follow-up materials were produced.
