Summary
"Cowboy science" refers to a concept articulated by Eric Weinstein, criticizing a perceived stagnation in American scientific research. Weinstein argues that the United States has moved away from high-risk, high-reward "cowboy science" in favor of safer, more bureaucratic research heavily influenced by peer review and administrative processes. He contends that this shift, potentially exacerbated by misinterpretations of the Civil Rights Act, has led to a loss of heterodoxy and is hindering American exceptionalism, while China actively recruits top global talent by offering funding and academic freedom. Weinstein criticizes institutional leaders for allegedly stifling dissent and manipulating narratives, and expresses hope in potential leadership changes at scientific organizations. He also touches upon theoretical physics, suggesting that fields like string theory have failed to advance the Standard Model, and speculates about the existence of secretive physics programs. Weinstein proposes his own theory of "Geometric Unity" and believes future observations of dark energy will lead to significant advancements in areas like weaponry, energy, and propulsion, potentially explaining phenomena like UFOs/UAPs. He views Artificial Intelligence as a wildcard, capable of uncovering suppressed discoveries by analyzing discarded scientific theories, and calls for visionaries to champion outlier minds and collaborate with government agencies to revitalize American science.

Cowboy Bebop (Japanese: カウボーイビバップ, Hepburn: Kaubōi Bibappu) is a Japanese neo-noir space Western anime television series that aired on TV Tokyo and Wowow from 1998 to 1999. Created and animated by Sunrise, it was led by a production team of director Shinichirō Watanabe, screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto, character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto, mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane, and composer Yoko Kanno, who are collectively billed as Hajime Yatate. The series, which ran for twenty-six episodes (dubbed "sessions"), is set in the year 2071 and follows the lives of a traveling bounty-hunting crew aboard a spaceship, the Bebop. Although it incorporates a wide variety of genres, the series draws most heavily from science fiction, Western, and noir films. It explores themes such as existential boredom, loneliness, and the inability to escape one's past. Cowboy Bebop was a critical and commercial success both in Japanese and international markets, most notably in the United States, and has been widely hailed as one of the best animated series of all time. It garnered several major anime and science fiction awards and received acclaim from critics and audiences for its style, characters, story, voice acting, animation, and soundtrack. The English dub was particularly lauded and is regarded as one of the best anime English dubs. Credited with helping to introduce anime to a new wave of Western viewers in the early 2000s, Cowboy Bebop has also been called a gateway series.

- Beyond Cowboy Science: Simple Methods for Conducting Credible and Valid Research — Reforestation, Nurseries and Genetics Resources
Many nursery and field trials are conducted every year to test new products and techniques. Some of these trials, however, can produce data that are too variable or confounded to accurately assess the question(s) of interest. A “cowboy science” approach can yield results that are statistically invalid and biologically untrue; using such data can lead to erroneous conclusions. By incorporating a few basic principles of study design and data collection, anyone can yield credible data that can be used to answer questions or make decisions. Despite beliefs to the contrary, using a valid experimental design usually requires little or no additional input of time and resources, nor does it require an in depth understanding of statistics. Good study design also ensures that the time and [...] Skip to content. | Skip to navigation RNGR # Beyond Cowboy Science: Simple Methods for Conducting Credible and Valid Research [...] resources invested in research yields meaningful results. This article describes the “Three Rs” of study design—representation, replication, and randomization—along with examples of pitfalls and successes. It also describes how to create a study plan to guide effective research in the nursery or the field. An earlier version of this article was published in the 2013 National Proceedings: Forest and Conservation Nursery Associations (Haase 2014).
