Summary
The Dow Chemical Company is an American multinational chemical corporation headquartered in Midland, Michigan. Founded in 1897 by Herbert Henry Dow, the company has grown into one of the world's largest chemical producers, often referred to as the "chemical companies' chemical company" due to its primary focus on selling to other industries. In recent scientific discussions, Dow was highlighted for its historical development of Picloram, a persistent agricultural pesticide linked to epigenetic errors and a rising spike in young-onset colorectal cancer. Structurally, Dow merged with DuPont in 2017 to form DowDuPont, which subsequently split in April 2019, leaving the Dow Chemical Company as a subsidiary of the newly formed holding company, Dow Inc.
