Summary
Instinct is an artificial intelligence startup based in San Francisco, California, developing an autonomous consumer AI personal assistant. The company's AI is designed to understand personal context and everyday workflows by interfacing directly with user devices and applications—including email, messaging, audio, and location—without requiring new interfaces. It handles everyday tasks such as scheduling, follow-ups, and booking services like rides and home repairs. Instinct was highlighted by investor Brad Gerstner during an All-In Podcast market presentation as an early proof point of consumer-facing AI booking agents and tools.

Instinct is the inherent inclination of a living organism towards a particular complex behaviour, containing innate (inborn) elements. The simplest example of an instinctive behaviour is a fixed action pattern (FAP), in which a very short to medium length sequence of actions, without variation, are carried out in response to a corresponding clearly defined stimulus. Every animal has instincts, including humans. Any behaviour is instinctive if it is performed without being based upon prior experience (that is, in the absence of learning), and is therefore an expression of innate biological factors. Sea turtles, newly hatched on a beach, will instinctively move toward the ocean. A marsupial climbs into its mother's pouch upon being born. Other examples include animal fighting, animal courtship behaviour, internal escape functions, and the building of nests. Though an instinct is defined by its invariant innate characteristics, details of its performance can be changed by experience; for example, a dog can improve its listening skills by practice. Instincts are inborn complex patterns of behaviour that exist in most members of the species, and should be distinguished from reflexes, which are simple responses of an organism to a specific stimulus, such as the contraction of the pupil in response to bright light or the spasmodic movement of the lower leg when the knee is tapped. The absence of volitional capacity must not be confused with an inability to modify fixed action patterns. For example, people may be able to modify a stimulated fixed action pattern by consciously recognizing the point of its activation and simply stop doing it, whereas animals without a sufficiently strong volitional capacity may not be able to disengage from their fixed action patterns, once activated.

#### What is Instinct? Instincts are unlearned behaviors triggered by environment cues or internal needs. They are related to motivation, as they occur in response to an organism's survival needs. Different species rely on instincts, and these behaviors remain consistent within individual species. Although both are unlearned behaviors, there is a distinct difference between instinct and reflex. Reflex is a reaction or response to environmental trigger while instinct is a much more complex set of behaviors. An example of reflex is when a baby turns their head to nurse when something touches its cheek. An instinct is more complex, like a mother bird feeding her young by regurgitating food in response to their hunger signals. [...] Instinctual behavior has been recognized across a wide variety of species. It serves different functions and appears at various points of development, which depends on their purpose and the species they belong to. There are human and non-humans instincts. Non-Human Instincts As winter approaches, many species of bear prepare for hibernation. It is a complex set of behavior, which requires awareness on the time of the year, engagement in pre-hibernation preparations tasks, and emergence at the right time. Similarly, migration in whales is also a complex set of behaviors induced by environmental cues. It is a response to food supply shortages and mating purposes. Human Instincts
