Summary

AI Diplomacy is a strategic framework, notably pursued by the President Trump administration, aimed at countering China's global influence by fostering technology partnerships, particularly with nations in the Middle East. This approach contrasts with the more restrictive US export controls of the Joe Biden administration and has already led to significant collaborations, such as OpenAI's partnership with Abu Dhabi's G42. Beyond geopolitical competition, AI Diplomacy also encompasses international collaboration to establish norms and rules for the ethical development and use of AI technologies, ensuring principles like transparency, fairness, and accountability. Key figures like Sriram Krishnan, the Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence, are instrumental in shaping this strategy, representing US interests abroad and working towards reinvigorating US dominance in emerging technologies.
