Summary

The "Science Corner" encompasses both a specific segment at the All-In Summit and broader scientific exploration exemplified by the Mars rover Curiosity. The All-In Summit segment, hosted by David Friedberg, featured discussions on science communication and technological innovation with guests like Cleo Abram, who shared insights on the creator economy and techno-optimism; Alex Filippenko, an astrophysicist who presented on the James Webb Space Telescope, the early universe, exoplanets, and the importance of funding pure research; and Keller Rinaudo Cliffton, CEO of Zipline, who showcased his company's drone delivery system for medical supplies and its expansion. Separately, the Mars rover Curiosity, a key part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission, has been actively exploring Gale Crater since its 2012 landing, investigating Martian climate, geology, and the potential for past microbial life, with its mission having been extended indefinitely.

Curiosity (rover)

Curiosity is a car-sized Mars rover that is exploring Gale crater and Mount Sharp on Mars as part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission. Launched in 2011 and landed the following year, the rover continues to operate more than a decade after its original two-year mission. Curiosity was launched from Cape Canaveral (CCAFS) on November 26, 2011, at 15:02:00 UTC and landed on Aeolis Palus inside Gale crater on Mars on August 6, 2012, 05:17:57 UTC. The Bradbury Landing site was less than 2.4 km (1.5 mi) from the center of the rover's touchdown target after a 560 million km (350 million mi) journey. Mission goals include an investigation of the Martian climate and geology, an assessment of whether the selected field site inside Gale has ever offered environmental conditions favorable for microbial life (including investigation of the role of water), and planetary habitability studies in preparation for human exploration. In December 2012, Curiosity's two-year mission was extended indefinitely. On August 6, 2022, a detailed overview of accomplishments by the Curiosity rover for the last ten years was reported. The rover is still operational, and as of 30 September 2025, Curiosity has been active on Mars for 4674 sols (4803 total days; 13 years, 55 days) since its landing (see current status). The NASA/JPL Mars Science Laboratory/Curiosity Project Team was awarded the 2012 Robert J. Collier Trophy by the National Aeronautic Association "In recognition of the extraordinary achievements of successfully landing Curiosity on Mars, advancing the nation's technological and engineering capabilities, and significantly improving humanity's understanding of ancient Martian habitable environments." Curiosity's rover design serves as the basis for NASA's 2021 Perseverance mission, which carries different scientific instruments.

  • Science Areas for Preschoolers: Nurturing Young Minds ...

Including an area for life science in your science corner is a must for encouraging inquiry and observation skills. Here, children can observe plants growing, watch caterpillars turn into butterflies, or learn about different animals and their habitats. This area can foster a deep appreciation for nature and the environment among young children. ## STEM Activities: Learning Through Doing and Building [...] Every science center should have a dedicated space for science exploration and activities. This could be a small table or a corner of the classroom where children can conduct simple experiments, like mixing colors, exploring pumpkin volcanoes with baking soda and vinegar, or observe with magnifying glasses.
